I feel that this satire makes a very good point in a way. The truth hurts though. We are about to go spend thousands of dollars on our educations, but for what? It makes no sense that many of the riches people in America are dropouts. So by us paying for our education and our diplomas… we really get no where. We get a decent job, and usually get married have to many kids, then end up divorce.

This is my satire… boy do I have no clue what I am doing. So partner…PLEASE HELP!! And anyone else that is bored and has nothing better to do with their time.
Money is one thing that students, especially those going into college, can not manage. I mean seriously, how much money does one really have in their bank account? Obviously it’s not much because all everyone wants to do these days is spend, spend, and spend, especially with today’s society. Everything is about being ritzy, flashy, and glamorous. All students want is what they can’t have. Therefore they spend their money on the less important things in life. They want to look and be like the celebrities of today, so they go out and buy $200 jeans and fancy jewelry when they could be saving that money.
Students don’t realize how much their education really costs them until they are stuck paying off loans and such. It’s like they are oblivious to the real things in life. Students these days seem to be living this fantasy life. They need to learn that it is time to begin prioritizing and not fantasizing Open a checking account and a savings account and begin earning credit so when one does get older they have something to fall back on. Not everyone can keep living off of their parents and getting the finer things handed to them. I’m sorry it’s not that easy. So each week put a little money a side for expenses and then put the rest away. Eventually then one will have more and more money saved up. Then after one has established a good lump some of money then they can start to buy the finer things in life when all the important things are paid for. Does this not make sense people? It’s really not as hard as it sounds. So to everyone out there that thinks they are going to make it rich and never have to pay for anything, they are out of their minds. All I can say is good luck in saving, it’s the best thing one can do.

Flora,
I really enjoyed your satire and i think you did a fine job. However, it reads more like and exposity essay to me than a satire. Though it states your point very well it only gives one way to solve the problem. I suggest giving a few more ideas and then coming back to your main realistic idea on how to solve the issue.

I know that my essay is not a satire. I feel that my essay is more telling people what to do and being commanding. I need to add more humor to it, and be a little more sarcastic. I am thinking of making it seem like its ok to spend tons of money because it grows on trees, when realistically we all know that is not true.

Money is the way to life. Everyday we find ourselves spending, or dishing out money for something. It doesn’t surprise me that some of the wealthiest people can go into debt. Money is what we depend on to do everything and anything. If one wants something they buy it. Eventually we find ourselves bouncing checks and filing bankruptcy. Why? Because we don’t know how to save what we earn. Saving money should be a class in school. Everyone needs to learn the difference between needs and wants. What we need are things that are essential to living, and what we want, well is just about everything. So buy it then. Buy what you want, when you want it. It’s cool to be in debt to your ears as long as you are the best dressed, highest classed, most popular person. What the heck, you earned that big pay check, so spend it. Our money doesn’t mean anything if it is just sitting in a checking or savings account. And while you’re at it take out a loan for college, don’t save your money for your education. Who cares? Then you can take out another loan for a nice vehicle. Money grows on trees, eventually you can pay everything off, right?

The satire is well written and i like it. Though you have to dig to find the irony in it. I suggest making the irony or sarcasm much more apparent in the satire. This may give a more humorous tone and make it more patent.

What do you want more than anything on this earth? Is it the four karat diamond ring or the Bentley? Everyday we find ourselves spending, or dishing out money for something. It doesn’t surprise me that some of the wealthiest people can go into debt. Look at Tim Pinkerton for instance. He owns his own business, a 10 bedroom house and 3 high priced vehicles. Every day he has some creditor knocking at his door or calling his house. Of course he never answers the door or picks up the phone, why should he? He’s rich and has what he wants. Money is what we depend on to do everything and anything. If one wants something they buy it. Eventually we find ourselves bouncing checks and filing bankruptcy. Why? Well because we don’t know how to save what we earn. Spending money should be a class in school. Everyone should get what they want. What do you want more than anything on this earth? Is it the four karat diamond ring or the Bentley? Everyday we find ourselves spending, or dishing out money for something. I know my mom buys me anything I ask for, what’s another $30 NSF over draft charge? It doesn’t surprise me that some of the wealthiest people can go into debt. Take a glance at Tim Pinkerton for instance. He owns his own business, a 10 bedroom house and 3 high priced vehicles. Every day he has some creditor knocking at his door or calling his house. If one wants something they buy it. Eventually we find ourselves bouncing checks and filing bankruptcy. Why? Well because we don’t know how to save what we earn. We don’t have to though. Spending money should be a class in school. No one would be able to pass that class.
Everyone should get what they want. What we need are things that are essential to living, and what we want, well is just about everything. So buy it then.
“That 70 dollar skirt would be so cute with the 150 dollar mink coat I just bought.”
