What beautiful children! Like their dads, I wonder how many of the boys became coal miners.

This picture brings back memories of Mom getting up every winter morning to put coal in the coal stove in the living room, so we would be warm when we got up.

Mom, as a child, lived in a single-parent household. She used to go by the railroad tracks to pick up coal that fell from the train, so her family could have something to burn to keep warm.

Present Day Coal Town of "Lower" Stickney WV

This is the community where I lived until the Fall of 1962.

I lived up the road a few hundred yards in "Upper" Stickney.

This is a picture of a house in "Upper" Stickney. It is similar to the one we lived in. This picture was taken in the 1940s.

My parents bought their house but the coal company owned the land. My parents had a 99 year lease on the land.
